The Second Tension

Later in the Foreword, Urantia introduces the Deity Absolute and the Unqualified Absolute. Again, forget the names temporarily. Look at what they are doing. We have differentiated expressions of an underlying infinity. They are functionally different. Because they are different, a relationship exists between them. And Urantia once again describes tension. Then, once again, the Universal Absolute functions in relation to the coordination of that tension.

So we get the same basic architecture: Unity ↓ Differentiation ↓ Two distinguishable conditions ↓ Tension ↓ Coordination

Now the similarity was becoming difficult to overlook. The terminology wasn't the same. It shouldn't be. The Conscious Codex and The Urantia Book were developed through entirely different paths and use entirely different languages. But underneath those names, the relationship being described looked remarkably similar.

The Same Problem

Both systems appear to be dealing with the same fundamental structural problem: How does the One become many without ceasing to be One? Our answer begins with separation. Unity differentiates within itself. Difference creates relationship. Relationship creates primordial tension. And that tension establishes the condition necessary for everything that follows.

Urantia describes an original source. Reality differentiates. Different conditions appear. A tension exists between those conditions. And another relationship coordinates that tension within the larger whole.

The names are different. The structural logic is strikingly similar.

And this is where the Foreword really began changing for me. Because now we weren't simply finding interesting numbers. We had already found: 7 functioning as process. 12 functioning as structure. Two components of the 12–60–7 framework.

And underneath those numerical relationships, we were now finding something even more foundational: Unity. Separation. Difference. Tension. The basic architecture of Law One. And we still hadn't reached Paper 1.

I should have been excited. from this Instead, I was pretty much shook. Finding one meaningful connection would have been interesting. Finding two would have been surprising. But I was still in the Foreword—we hadn't even reached Paper 1—and already I was looking at pieces that represented what felt like nearly thirty percent of the framework I had spent years developing. Seven as process. Twelve as structure. The large-scale organization of the Master Universe. Unity and separation. Differentiation. Primordial tension. The basic relationship behind Law One. All of that was sitting there before the book had even really started.

And my reaction wasn't: This is great. My reaction was: What is this book? I kept coming back to that question. What is this book?

Because I had approached my own theories as something I was discovering through my own path. Inversion Theory hadn't come from The Urantia Book. The 12–60–7 framework hadn't come from The Urantia Book. The Twelve Harmonic Laws hadn't been created by sitting down with Urantia and translating its cosmology into another language. These ideas had developed through my own attempts to understand structure, mathematics, relationships, consciousness, intelligence, time, and the way complex systems organize themselves. I thought I was building something unique.

Then I went back to this strange book I had encountered years earlier, opened the Foreword, and it almost seemed to look back at me and say: Yeah. We know that too. That threw me off.

This Wasn't What I Expected

There is a difference between finding something you're looking for and finding something you never expected to be there. If I had begun with The Urantia Book and then developed a theory that looked like The Urantia Book, there wouldn't be much mystery. I would know where the ideas came from. But that wasn't how this happened.

The mansion worlds had originally opened the door to Urantia for me. I explored the book, found many of its ideas fascinating, and carried some of them with me. But the structural framework came later. It developed through another path. So when I returned to Urantia with that framework and began really examining what the book was doing, I wasn't expecting the two to suddenly start lining up. Especially not this quickly. And especially not in the Foreword. That is what created the confusion.

I wasn't hundreds of papers deep, carefully searching for some obscure sentence that could be made to fit my theory. I was standing at the front door. And already there was seven. There was twelve. There was the Master Universe structure. There was differentiation from Unity. There was tension created through separation. There was coordination of that tension. I hadn't even gotten inside yet.

What Is This Book?

So I kept asking the same question. What is this book? Not who wrote it. We already put that question in the box. This was different. I wanted to understand what kind of idea I was dealing with.

How could a book published in 1955 contain structural relationships that looked so familiar to ideas I had developed independently decades later? Was I simply seeing patterns because I now knew how to look for them? Was the similarity superficial? Would the correspondence disappear once I went deeper? Or had the people behind The Urantia Book actually constructed something based upon some of the same underlying principles I had been discovering?

I didn't know. And at that point, I didn't need to know. But I couldn't ignore it anymore.

The Problem With Finding Too Much

Finding one correspondence is easy to dismiss. Human beings find patterns everywhere. Two systems can share a number. Two philosophies can use similar language. Two cosmologies can both begin with Unity. None of that, by itself, means very much.

But the problem I was beginning to face wasn't finding one thing. It was finding several different kinds of things at once. A numerical relationship. A structural relationship. A process relationship. A cosmological organization. And then a foundational principle that looked remarkably similar to the first Harmonic Law. Those are different categories of correspondence. That made the situation much harder for me to simply brush aside.

At the same time, I didn't want to run in the opposite direction and immediately declare that everything matched. I needed to keep reading. If this was coincidence, eventually the patterns should begin breaking down. If I was forcing my framework onto the text, deeper examination should expose that. But if the relationships continued appearing—especially if they appeared in places where I wasn't expecting them—then I had something much more interesting to deal with.

So the confusion became motivation. I needed to know how far this went.
